Chris Duggan, a longtime resident of central Texas and a resident of Bastrop County for over 10 years, announced his candidacy for the new 423rd District Court created last session by the Texas Legislature for Bastrop County. Duggan, 44, grew up in Austin and received a business degree from The University of Texas in 1986 and a law degree from Texas Tech Law School in 1989. His career as an attorney has included 18 years as a prosecutor. He served as a Briefing Attorney for Eastland Court of Appeals under Judge William G. “Bud” Arnot; a misdemeanor prosecutor for the Travis County Attorney; and a felony prosecutor for the Travis County District Attorney, where he has been assigned to several posts, including Drug Diversion Court, the Motor Vehicle Theft Unit, Community Prosecution and the Motor Fuel Tax Fraud Division of the Public Integrity Unit. Duggan is married to Sharon Kuhn and they have two daughters, Elizabeth and Clara. The Kuhn family has resided in Bastrop County for many years. Chris and Sharon built a home in Cedar Creek in 1998. Marilyn Kuhn, a longtime Bastrop County resident and Sharon’s Aunt, is Duggan’s campaign treasurer. Since moving to Cedar Creek, the Duggans have been active community members. They are members of the Ascension Catholic Church, where they served as co-vice presidents of the alter society and volunteer in church work. Duggan created the original PTA at Bluebonnet Elementary School, was the president of Cedar Creek Intermediate School, and currently serves on the PTA boards of Cedar Creek Intermediate and Middle Schools. He is a past president of the Friends of the Bastrop Public Library, on the Executive Committee for Relay for Life. “Any person who has contact with the justice system – victim, defendant, plaintiff, or attorney – should be treated with dignity and respect. Justice should prevail and the law should be followed without regard to personal interest,” said Duggan. “I have prosecuted criminal cases ranging from traffic accidents to murder, truancy to sexual assaults and major theft of motor fuels sales tax. I am known at the courthouse as a prosecutor who will go the extra mile to talk to police officers, victims, and defense attorneys to make sure that every case is handled fairly. People rely on my hard work and integrity.” For more information on the campaign or for questions, contact Chris Duggan at (512) 303-2513 or e-mail
